Because people don’t need to use the truck bed everyday. Trucks get half the gas millage as cars. Any time your driving a truck you don’t not using to carry something, you are spending twice as much on fuel as you would with a car with really good gas millage. And Toyota’s last forever. a tiny few Models do have issues so if your buying used do your research.
- Food, we only need food to fill full. We don’t even need 3 meals a day. Children should have 3 meals a day, But adults don’t really need 3 meals a day. And to feel satisfied we only need to eat food, it doesn’t matter what the food is. We don’t have to eat meat every meal, we can eat beans and rice many meals. Mexican family’s living in America live below the poverty line, and they have more enjoyment in life, because many meals they simply enjoy eating beans and rice to be full. Further meat is really expensive, we don’t have to eat meat every meal. Getting a few potato’s with rice, and beans, can absolutely fill us up to being full. You are talking about a difference in meals of a few dollars to 20 dollars if meat is included. A cheap rice cooker is 20$. My wife uses a super cheap rice cooker, and as long as we use our finger for measurement we produce good rice all the time.
- Buying second hand clothes from salvation army, or only wall mart. We don’t need expensive clothes to get rich. Macklelore said it best in thrift shop, 50 dollars for a T shirt is ignorant. If your in the poverty line. Wallmart cost clothes is all you need to stay dressed. You don’t need to waste money to look good.
- Eating out. All the restaurants are making profit their job is to make a profit. Many times you could get a recipe from any restaurant online, and you could remake the same food yourself at home and save the profit. Some fast food places do buy in bulk, so it could be hard to beat their prices, but if you buy in bulk, the cheapest ground beef, then yes essentially you could beat their prices.
- Save money when your young to invest in the market. Live like no one else when your a teenager and get your first job, Invest 20% of your money into CDS. They are guaranteed interest , and they can not fail. You can continue to reinvest that interest at 3.5% and you can have crazy money and live off the interest alone when you are older. Just save 20% and put it into CD’s,
- If you have good soil, you can attach rain water storage to your drains on your home. Harvesting rain water as it falls on your property. If you have full sun, you can plant a few plants in the ground. Heirloom seeds are a few dollars. This means if you use your time, and really treat these plants as your baby, if you have good soil and you work it, you can grow food for just the cost of seeds and the time. If you don’t have good soil, you would have to make your own compost for free. Or you would have to buy the cheapest compost. As soon as you buy anything for your garden and your not doing it all for free, it’s not going to be sustainable until it produces what you spent on it. Then let them produce more goats, and once a year or twice a year you can have two goats to roast. You can also get free milk. There is a man who walks the earth with 3 goats and he lives off their milk for free. For all human history goat milk, sustained humanity by hand. And Chickens also produce free eggs and with a chicken tractor you can let them eat grass too. Instead of paying money for lawn care. Spend that money on feed for a few animals, Chickens for free Eggs, Goats for free milk. These ideas are not new ideas they has sustained humanity for all history. Its only it today’s world they seem not natural because we are so used to buying everything from the store.
- Fruit Trees , and Use Grafting. Get grafts of good producing fruit trees, plant them and let them grow as large as they can. Everyone can agree, we could all eat more fruit. And if the fruit was free, it would most definitely be a sustainable thing. You can graft as many different apples into one apple tree as you have branches. And apples do flower at different times of the year. So different parts of your tree can flower different times of the year with tree grafting. This also works with stone fruit, and citrus. As long as you graft the same family into the same family , you can produce multiple different fruits from one tree. With a food dehydrator you can make all this fruit last much longer and still get the benefit of free food that fills you and sustains you. Growing fruit trees is a super amazing way to embrace sustainability.

If every house on your block, buys a different apple tree, in 3-5 years you could take grafts from every tree, and every tree could produce every apple on your block. Because of grafting.
